Staging your House for Sale -- Lesson 2

De-clutter, clean and organize all rooms in your house

The very first thing that you need to do before even putting your house on the market is to understand that during the selling process, it is a house that is for sale.  This means that among other things, leaving rooms sloppy, unclean or worse yet cluttered will not help you sell the house.  If the house is cluttered, it will give the prospective buyer the impression that the rooms are not big enough and that there are not enough closets.

If you need to, rent a storage shed and put all of your non essential, little used items there.  If you have a workshop or a hobby room, this could be a key selling feature of the house.  Make sure that the area is clean, uncluttered and looks like you enjoy your hobby there.

It is a good idea to visit some open houses and to see how others have prepared their houses.  Look primarily for open houses that are not new construction as these are clearly not lived in.  Check out open houses at boston open houses or andover ma open houses to get a clear idea.

As a final thought for this lesson, enjoy the journey.
